I worked in retail management for years, so I know a thing or two about good customer service. And I'm telling you, Spirit's response time is unmatched.

Let me back up.

A few years ago, I was having a really rough night. I’d been laid off, I was stressed out, and a massive Texas storm had rolled in. If you know Texas storms, you know. We're talking lightning, thunder, tornado warnings, the whole thing. And I'm terrified of these storms. So, there I am, alone, scared, and having a really crappy night.

I had recently heard about this concept of unemployed angels. The idea being that there are angels just hanging around waiting to be called on. These angels have a thing about helping people. It’s their jam. So, I thought, why not? I said, "If there are any unemployed angels who would like a really easy job, I would like someone to come be with me during this storm."

Immediately, I felt a whoosh come down through the ceiling and settle at the foot of my bed. I could feel it sitting there.

I thought, Whoa! That is excellent customer service!

That was one of my first experiences, and it set the tone for everything that followed. Because that's kind of how they operate. You ask, they show up.

What they look like:

I know people wonder about this, so I'll just tell you what I've seen.

The first one I saw was a woman standing in my living room. Everything about her was gold: her clothes, skin, even her hair. She was beautiful. She had her eyes closed, and her head tilted downward like in prayer. Another time, I woke up and saw part of a male gold being's face looking down at me. I wasn’t scared. My reaction was basically, oh… hello. I asked them once what they all looked like and got a vision of about a dozen of them, some male, some female, all gold. One of the women had cat ears. Not sure what that’s about, but I thought it was awesome.

I've also seen wizards and shamans who came in temporarily for specific purposes. Human-looking guides who feel incredibly familiar even though you can't place them. In the early days of my healing, there were other-dimensional beings in sparkly, gold robes with gold flaky, scaly skin, wearing masks. I didn't fully understand what they were, but I could feel them doing energy work on me for weeks. If you’ve ever had dry needling done, it felt like that. Whatever they were, they helped.

As far as archangels, I did hear the name Uriel. I only knew that name from a brief mention on the TV show, Supernatural, so hearing it pop into my head was interesting. He came through as an orangish-red light. When I asked if it was really him, I had a vision of Superman in a full salmon-colored suit. That’s right, a salmon-colored Superman.

I choose to believe that was his sense of humor.

I see flashing white lights all the time, but I believe the archangels come through as colored lights. I’ve also seen blue for Archangel Michael and green for Archangel Raphael. I’ve seen a yellow light and a pink light as well; although, I admit I’m not sure who those represent.

They can touch you:

Don’t freak out. It’s not scary.

I was having a nightmare once. Monsters were attacking me. Without even thinking, I cried out, "Angels, help!" I physically felt my legs being grabbed and shaken hard enough to wake me up. Not a dream sensation, actual physical shaking.

Another time, I think I had fallen asleep without my breathing equipment on. I felt a hand shove me on my right shoulder. Hard enough to wake me up. I could feel the pressure and the motion.

They can help heal you as well. I asked them to help with my stomachache once, and afterward, whoever did so touched my arm with a kind gesture like, "there you go”. That affected me more than any of the dramatic experiences. It felt so kind.

They're actually funny:

One night, Spirit showed me a vision of a roll of toilet paper. I'm sure it meant something about cleansing or releasing. But the second I saw it, all I could think of was Beavis going around saying, “I need TP for my bunghole” in the movie “Beavis and Butthead Do America”. Spirit immediately said, “Profound”.

I also heard, at one point, "I live on inside jokes,” which tracks completely.

Other funny phrases they’ve said:

·       Just wait. Hold my beer.

·       Without further adieu.

·       Let’s get ready to rumble.

·       Say hello to my little friend.

·       Gentlemen, start your engines.

·       Finger lickin’ good. (“KFC”?) Obviously!

·       Waz up, man?

·       Rockin’ and rollin’

·       The cat’s out of the bag.

The things they say:

Before my gallbladder surgery, I was a nervous wreck, going back and forth on whether to do it. I heard three things: "Just get it over with." "It will be a breeze." "Surgery will be successful."

Very practical. Very direct. Surgery went fine.

A few days before I got laid off, Spirit said, “I’m taking your job.” When it happened, I didn't spiral the way I normally would have, because I knew it came from Spirit and had meaning.

I've asked for reassurance more times than I can count during this past year. They always show up. "You can relax.” “You're in the right place at the right time." "You're safe." "Don't panic."

One night, I was crying pretty hard. I was really upset and heard two words: "Dear one." I definitely don’t use phrases like that.

I once found a song in my head when I woke up, one I hadn't heard in years and didn't even know the name of. It was "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. I looked up the lyrics. The chorus is about never giving up on someone, never leaving, never hurting them. I cried afterward. It felt like the universe was finally acknowledging everything I’d been through and wrapping its arms around it. I thanked Spirit for that one.

They've also said things like "I'm so sorry your dad hurt you." And "Amanda, I love the worst," which I understood to mean they love even the parts of me I'm not proud of.

They also said, "Just because they don't see you, doesn't mean that I can't see you." They know you better than anyone and don’t judge.

The part that matters most:

Through all of it, through the whooshes, the visions, the physical touches, and the 3 am conversations that go way too long, there's something they say regularly that matters more than any of the dramatic experiences.

"You don't have to do this."

They check in. They ask what I want. They wait for my permission. It’s my choice.

That's not the God most of us were raised with. That's not the scary, judgmental version. That's something that actually respects you. Something that shows up when you call and then asks if you're sure.

We may not fully understand them, but they feel like family who actually show up and love you completely.
